    Great score! And good video, thanks. I just got an A1200 myself (had an A600 back in the 90’s). My A1200 was in bad shape as well, but cleaned fine and after a recap it runs great. I was also surprised to find a Blizzard 1230 Mk IV card in there, which also works. A happy surprise, as I paid less for the entire unit than the Blizzard goes for online these days.

      Oh and mine also had the Amiga logo coloured by a sharpie or something. It was a pain to clean. Tried IPA, acetone, baking soda… finally cleaned using cotton tips, toothpicks and a toothbrush. And all those chemicals.

    In my experience, The problem with these cheap clones is that they don’t usually last all that long. I’ve had several different cheapo clones over the years for simply testing if a game works or not and eventually just went back to using an actual snes.

    Awesome! Famicom and NES have different cartridge connectors, with 60 and 72 pins respectively. I've seen adapters for sale online, never tried them though. I think some Famicom games actually had extra sound chips on the carts, but there is no corresponding audio pins on the NES so you potentially have a slightly worse audio experience with an adapter.

    Seems the designer of this PCB already has a solution for the spacebar on his github page. Why didn't this work for you?

  • @MrWaalkman
    @MrWaalkman 11 дней назад

    Happy Haircut!! I was wondering about your first set of keys since the footprint that you used didn't match the keys that you bought (footprints can be a PITA), I like the purple better anyway. And of course the best laid plans of mice and men... Your 3D printed parts came out great! And of course the keyboard too! The final version anyways. :) And I would add two dummy keyswitch footprints for the spacebar on your next revision. Some friends and I just did a cochlear implant cover re-design for a two year old girl who is a bit too active for her implants. :) And my parts don't fit either, so I have to increase the diameter of my part a bit. And I had to change my design as well since it looked like crap once the support material was removed. So I had the exact same problem as you. My solution was to make the top of the part flat and print it upside down. Saved the parents of the kid $80 USD per cover. They're happy with it. I also have some MK-52/61 keys that I had printed in English. Want a set? Or better yet(?) I can send you my hacked version of Menadue's "A Better Way to Make Calculator Keys and a Conversion to English for an MK-61" OpenSCAD key creator that I hacked and you can do yours in German.

    Can you merge ADFs? For example a game with multiple floppies into one larger ADF?

    • @RetroWK
      @RetroWK 11 дней назад

      You can technically do that, but most games use full file names when loading files from disk. That includes the disk name. So if you copy two disks (say simant_d1 and simant_d2) to one disk (called simant) then it fails to load a file like simant_d2:info.txt. You can do that to save disks on loose files.

    If you're using Cura, try adjusting the horizontal expansion verses changing the size. And try Gateron, Buttery Yellow kkey switches. Yhey don't have the collar and are more tolerant of the adapter. I have been doing this on Mitsumi keyboards in Ti 99 computers.I also salvage the stabilizers from the Mitsumi and us an adapter from an Atariage forum.

    The original keyboard can be repaired by carefully peeling away the membrane (I've done it before with both an Atari 1200xl and 800xl with the same keyboard type you have here). It is a pain, so I totally understand building a new replacement keyboard.

  • @frnno967
    @frnno967 11 дней назад

    Perhaps you could update the PCB design for the spacebar to either add footprints for those switches you are using as stabilizers, or actually make a version with the stabilizer holes in the correct location for your type of key caps. Then you could also fix the shift key issues by placing those switch footprints better.

    Nice purchase! Some comments.- 1). These Big-Box Amigas when shipped tend to shift their inner contents while traveling, so rule of thumb is to check everything is properly connected once you receive the package, but before powering on. So it’s typical to find the processor card not properly connected, and even out of its seating slot. 2). You said that you are “not needing the memory sticks”, actually you do need them. FastRAM on the motherboard SIMM sockets is way faster than the Zorro memory you purchased which is slow. Zorro III RAM is nice to see but slow to access (that’s why Amiga Test Kit took quite some time to test it). The best way to use the A4000 is by getting an accelerator board with built-in Fast RAM and you resort to the onboard SIMM FastRAM as secondary. That way you avoid performance hits and bottlenecks on the system, and your 128 MB Zorro III FastRAM as I said earlier is nice to see, but not really that useful (because of the performance penalties you incur in).

    • @carlosm.orozcocardenas800
      @carlosm.orozcocardenas800 17 дней назад

      About the CD-ROM audio, the CD audio output needs to be amplified; if you crank up all the volume you’ll actually hear faintly the CD audio which is greatly attenuated when mixed to the actual Paula audio output using that 3 pin connector on the motherboard. I faced the same issue too. Hope it helps. 🙂 I was forgetting. For video you can save some pennies and buy a ZZ9000 RTG video card. It delivers native HDMI output with modern video modes, native resolutions pass-through, deinterlacing and up scaling them, USB mass storage, and adds up to 256 MB of Zorro III Fast RAM too. Again, great purchase, congrats on that, and hope it helps. 🙂👋🏼

    The sad thing is that you have no use of an Amiga 4000. What do you use it for? A big brick is what it is. Don't get me wrong here, but my first computer was a Commodore 64 and then an Amiga and i really loved my Amiga, but today they are useless. You can easy emulate an Amiga in a PC.

      For me it‘s more about owning this than using this. It‘s like a piece of art and it has a lot of emotions attached to it. Emulation can give you the function but it can not give you the sense of ownership or the emotion that you feel when you can see and touch the machine.

    You should be able to let the GBS-C scan-double and flicker-fix PAL Hires Interlace on your VGA monitor instead of using Double PAL. This will give you back 2x bandwith and be abke to run a 128 color Workbench. 256 color is probably still a little sluggish but it isn't intolerable, just that 128 is the sweet spot.

    Recently a block of six E&L "The Fox" MT-80Z trainers came up for auction with a starting bid of $60 USD. I notified everyone that I could think who would like one of them (as for myself, I have three of them, the third being purchased for the books that came along with it. So I wasn't going to bid on any of them). One friend bit, and he got his for (IIRC) $86 USD. While all of mine were notrh of $250 USD. So yeah, if you are a seller, spread your sales out a bit. @@drphilxr It's a slightly modified MPF-I "The Professor" trainer that has been put in a much bigger and much more durable box alongside a second trainer board (you actually get two trainers - kinda) that sits to the left of the MPF-I. The early MT-80Zs didn't even bother to hide the fact. Later on the markings were removed. And later still, the 'AZ' version came out and replaced the two boards with a single big board. You can see (one of my hands) and hear me describe my MT-80Z over on Michael Wessel's channel. Bist ein echter Glückspilz. So einen Rechner für das Geld werde ich nie finden.... ich habe meinen 4000 030 defekt in den späten 90ern verschenkt, nur das Gehäuse mit innenleben, die Tastatur habe ich noch... heute ärgere ich mich....

    Sweet! That’s a nice big box machine. I never see an Amiga 4000 before. I think Germany held on to the amigas a bit longer than here in NL, where by 1991 people basically just bought PCs. Even at ESCOM, you wouldn’t see Amigas anymore by 1992/1993. Great marketing advise on bulk sales. Never thought about it but it makes sense.

    • @hollgo626
      @hollgo626 18 дней назад

      That is npt true. I could have bought an Amiga 1200 for 899 DM in 1996 frpm Escom and an Amiga 4000 040 for 3000 DM in 1996 from Escom. They even hat the ominous A4000 Tower variant which was used to be the only novelty Escom brought in the the short period of time when they had bought Commodore and not have gone bankrupt...

      @@hollgo626 in Germany yes, here in NL they weren’t in the store. Im sure you could order one, but they weren’t on display and I know nobody who bought an Amiga in my friends circle after 1992. I recall watching a Computer Club episode where they had that ESCOM Amiga 4000 tower. And I went over to ESCOM to see it for real and it just wasn’t there. Or any Amiga for that matter. Those ugly cheap 386/486 mini towers from Escom were there all over the place. And they sold very well.

      @@hollgo626 You couldn’t find them here in the ESCOM stores on display. I’m sure you could order them. But hardly anybody did, nobody in my friends circle that were outspoken Amiga users went for the 3000/4000. That’s probably also why a 4000 would go for 3500/4000 euros here in the Netherlands. I saw an Amiga 4000 big tower on ZDF ComputerClub and so I went to Escom to see one in person and compare it to a 486. It simply wasn’t there. I tried another store, also not a single Amiga to be found.

      An A1200 has a 14MHz 68020, so yeah 14MHz is perfectly correct for a stock A1200.

      Amiga models that use the ~7MHz 68000 - A1000, A2000, A500 (inc. +), A1500, CDTV (I guess it was an Amiga) & A600 (less of an Amiga than a CDTV lol) All other Amigas use fully 32bit CPUs at ~14MH and above.
